Sarajevo Equestrian Club

Horse riding has the unique, amazing power to calm and clear the mind.
Here at Sarajevo Equestrian Club we want to ensure that you have the opportunity to experience the physical, social and emotional benefits riding horses can provide.

About us

Riders of all ages and levels of riding experience are welcome in our club. Our goal is to teach you riding skills, but also to teach you to have a proper relationship and partnership with horses thanks to which you will ride with love and confidence.

We provide theoretical classes, and individual and group riding lessons.

Why horses ?

Horses bring many benefits to the lives of those around them. They are both beautiful to watch and of significant impact to the lives of many.  They are a fun, enjoyable, different alternative to the daily gym grind for those who need more physical activity in their lives. They are a morale booster, a friend, and a teacher for those who are depressed, stressed, or lonely.

There are many different types of riding, so everyone can find the one that suits them.

Equestrian Sports

There are many disciplines in equestrian sport. Equestrian Sports use horses as a main part of the sport. This usually takes the form of the rider being on the horse’s back, or the horses pulling some sort of horse-drawn vehicle.

Dressage

The Olympic sport of dressage is derived from the French term meaning “training” and its purpose is to strengthen and supple the horse while maintaining a calm and attentive demeanor. Currently, competitive dressage involves progressively difficult levels incorporating multiple tests within each level. Each test is a series of movements that must be performed by the horse and rider. Each movement is scored by a judge on a scale of 0-10. Special tests are also written for musical freestyle, sport horse breeding and performances incorporating multiple horses and riders.

Show jumping

Show jumping, competitive equestrian event in which horse and rider are required to jump, usually within a time limit, a series of obstacles that have been designed for a particular show.

If possible, the horse is warmed up by walking and trotting for at least half an hour before entering the arena. The horse is guided by the rider toward the centre of each obstacle, his speed being contingent upon the breadth of each fence. The fences, which are not more than 1.6 metres high, often are placed less than 12 metres apart.

Endurance

Endurance Rides are races over a trail of 50 to 150 miles. Terrain can be varied and challenging. The events are commonly held over one to three days. Horses are checked by qualified veterinarians and judges before, during, and after the ride. Your first endurance ride will likely be a one-day event of about 20 or 25 miles.

To win you must maintain a fast pace of over 10 miles an hour, but many people ride just to finish. Endurance riding demands a high level of fitness of horse and rider. In addition to riding, consider doing some cardio building exercise. Eat properly and try to go into the event rested. A tired rider is harder for a horse to carry.
